Who Am I? - Short Version

I am currently the an Academic Developer Evangelist with Microsoft Corporation. Previously I was the Technology Director and a computer/technology teacher at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua NH.

I am a graduate of Taylor University in Upland IN where I got my start in computers. I did my graduate work (MS in CS) at Rivier College in Nashua NH.

It turns out that my old high school, Brooklyn Technical High School, also has a home page on the net.

Blogs

  •   I maintain a blog for high school computer science teachers called Computer Science Teacher at blogs.msdn. The focus of it is hints, tips, and useful information for teachers of computer science in K-12 but mostly high school. It may be interesting to students as well. I hope so.
  •   My Social Computing blog called Cyberspace People Watcher is at Windows Live Spaces. There I discuss my thoughts around blogging, online community and related topics. I also link to interesting article and blogs from there. BTW If you are looking for a good free blog site be sure to check out Windows Live Spaces.
  •   I have a somewhat social (relaxed) blog at  theSpoke.net. That site is aimed at students for the most part though there are a lot of non-students there as well. I tend to blog about what is happening in my life as well as some technical information pieces.
  •   I blog about education in general at On10.net. My direct blog link is here but an aggregate of a number of education blogs is contained in Education at On10.

Pointers

  • DotNet A set of projects and other resources on the general topic of teaching with Visual Studio .NET.
  • TeachVB A collection of links and pointers useful to teachers who teach Visual Basic programming. VB is my idea of an ideal first programming language for high school and younger students.
  • Fiction I recently decided to try my hand at writing fiction. While I want to write the great American novel I thought it might be a good idea to start with short stories. Here I will post some of them as I write them. Not that I expect anyone to read them but, hey, why not?
  • Essays I use essay writing as a way to get ideas clear in my own mind. Since I believe that one benefits from sharing ones ideas and opinions and from receiving feedback from others, I have chosen to "publish" some of my essays on the Internet. I have also included pointers to some essays by other writers who have said things I agree with far better then I could have myself.  I haven't written any new essays in a while. Most of what used to go into essays now goes into blogs.
  • Resume Resumes are generally boring things. Mine is probably no exception. I include it here for a number of reasons. One being that I wanted to experiment with hypertextizing (is that a word?) an existing document. The second being that I may want to point someone to it in the event an interesting job turns up in conversation. And of course, this is the World Wide Web so there is no telling who might show up, read my resume and decide that I am perfect for a project they have in mind. If you are involved in the business of mixing computers and education take a look. This in not your ordinary set of experience.
  • Volunteer Work There are too many things in the world that need done to only do what one is paid to do. This reference points to a list of the unpaid, volunteer work that involves taking a leadership role. It is by no means all inclusive but highlights a few things that I am proud to have been involved with.
  • Flypaper Page An experimental page where I've listed a few people who I have lost touch with in hopes that they will find me while looking for references to themselves in various search tools. It's been years and so far this has not worked at all. I have found more "lost" friends through LinkedIn than anything else.
  • Friends on the Web A few interesting people I know who have interesting Web pages.
